How to be truly happy

I always hear people ask what is the secret to being happy. Every single person has different needs and desires which can mean they take things for granted whilst craving that ‘better life’.

Here are a few things you can think about which are taken for granted. For anyone reading this who is feeling unhappy please consider the below.

Value what you have
I see so many people who are unhappy because they always want more. That’s not a bad thing, it’s as if we are programmed to want more. But just stop to think what you already have and just how lucky you are.

Things to be greatful for:

– Health

– the privilege of life

– Family

– Friends

– Having the luxury of having food on the table

– Your job, whether you like your job or not, you have a reason to get up in the morning.
There is a saying that I always think about – “Always remember that your worst day is someone’s best day”. This makes me really sad to think that but it is so true there is always someone who has had it worse than you.

Write a list of all the good things in your life and appreciate them.

Always look on the bright side

For every negative, there is a positive and to have a positive mindset will change your mood and the way you live.

Why get frustrated and upset about a situation that you cannot control? Instead of feeling negative, think of how you can make it better. There is always a way.

Learn from your mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes. You are not a robot. It only becomes a problem when the same mistakes are made over and over again.

Learning from your mistakes helps you grow and develop as a person whether that can be demonstrated in your work life or your everyday life. It’s always good to reflect on your behaviours and certain situations and consider what can be done differently.

Appreciate yourself

This is so important. Every single person is amazing in so many different ways.

Acknowledge your talents and what you are good at and do it more often. Whether it’s a hobby or a new skill you would like to learn – find time to do the things you love. This will give you a confidence boost and a feeling of value.

Stop overthinking

Try to stop overthinking every scenario of what could be. Live in the moment, keep chasing your dreams but enjoy getting there. Overthinking can make you miserable.

Spread the love

Make another person smile at least once a day. Whether that is a random act of kindness towards a loved one or a complete stranger.

I know someone who has completed “30 random acts of kindness before turning 30”. She said she felt almost a little selfish completing them as it made her feel good.

We all feel it, when we help someone or do something to make someone really happy or greatful – it gives you that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Do more of it. Making someone else happy subconsciously makes you happy.

And love and appreciate others. Put yourselves in their shoes, be compassionate and always be kind.

You are only human and it is normal for you to want more than what you have. Ambition is what drives us forward and to work harder for that dream holiday, car, savings, pay the bills . If you are not happy with what you already have and what you have accomplished.

Be greatful that you have the opportunity to live as most take that for granted.

And remember, it’s just a bad day and not a bad life ☺️
